Fix a Leak Week!

Today, we had some time to work on our presentations, announcements and posters that we will use to spread the word about conserving water, as part of Fix a Leak Week.

We also watched two BrainPop videos (Water Supply and Water Pollution) that gave us some cool facts we'd also like to share.

For example:

Some experts say that over 2/3 of the water that we use is wasted.

More than 1 000 000 000 people in the world do not have access to clean water.

Only 3% of the world's water is drinkable.

We will be getting our t-shirts from the FortWhyte centre soon, which we will wear when we are presenting our info to other classrooms.  We also have planned to share our information through this blog to help other people make similar changes, in order to help become aware of how they use water.

Fix a Leak Week!

Did you know that Radisson School wastes over 214 litres of water a day due to leaks?!  Believe it or not, that is what Room 4 tested to be the case!  From sinks, to toilets, to urinals, to water fountains, we saw some areas that we can help improve upon!  We were inspired to do so after hearing about the Fix a Leak promotion, promoted by The City of Winnipeg Water and Waste, and FortWhyte Alive.

Why do we want to conserve water?  We realize many people in the world do not have easy access to clean drinking water and we are lucky to have it available to us whenever we need it. Wasting water also costs money, which can be used for other things at our school.

Here are some pictures of us conducting our research, measuring the water, and critically thinking about how we can help conserve water at Radisson.

Photography from Assiniboine Park Zoo

On December 10th, 2012, Room 4 and Room 18 went to Assiniboine Park Zoo. Here are some pictures and a quick explanation of the day by Hailey!

Our Field Trip to the Zoo!

Mrs. Steinhoff won a free field trip to the zoo. At the zoo we did some really fun activities like taking photos of the animals, having a cool lunch and poetry.

Doing poetry was so fun! First we got into groups of four or five and we all had a choice between five different types of poems. But all the groups picked I AM poems.

After the poems, we all got into a big circle and the guide had a drum. She passed the drum around so we could all show our rhythm that we feel or a beat. It was really cool.

After poetry we went into a dark room and another person explained 5 different types of ways you can do photography. They were worms eye view, bird’s eye view, far shot and wide shot. It was really fun! Taking pictures of animals was so fun! First we got a shot of the zebra. The other animals were rain deer, elk, tiger, red panda, monkeys, birds and peacocks. All the animals were so cute.

The zoo made so much fun and funny memories.  It was really fun.

Les trois petits cochons!

Finally! We have finished our "Les trois petits cochons" videos! These videos were made using the scripts from the AIM Language program which I have now been using for the past 2 years in Basic French. Remember - some of these students did not know 1 word of French before starting this year, (other than the usual Bonjour!) so it is really amazing to see how far they've come!Room 4 - I am so proud of all your hard work! Please watch and leave a comment!
